It’s been a while since we’ve had any time to work on WhoisScraper so we’ve decided to release it as open source within the next week!

If you’ve been looking forward to finally downloading this (the download link has been down for the past few months), stay tuned to the blog — we plan on releasing it Saturday, August 7th.

What does this mean?

While we had originally intended to sell the bot, you can now download it (and the source) for free!

Why do I care?

We had previously abandoned this project. Since it will be open source now, which means more features, mods, and (hopefully) active development! At the bare minimum, at least you can snag a copy without paying for it

I’m a developer. How can I get in on the action?

We’d love to have you! You can check out our github page — http://github.com/onlinemarketresults/OMR-WhoisScraper

I was recently hired to do some SEO work for a client’s Joomla site. One of the first queries I performed was to see how many pages were indexed, using the “site:sitename.com” operator in google.

I was very surprised to see that the site, which had 25-50 pages max, had over 15k pages indexed! It seems like the site had been hacked, most likely in an auto defacement/XSS attack script. The hack occurred in early October 2009 as far as I can tell. It seems to be a variation from the writedoor2.php hack

All of the google indexed pages were in this format: sitename.com/index.php?keyword. The keywords were all If you have been suffering the same problem and haven’t tracked it down yet, here is what you need to do…

Offending code:

/public_html/index.php

The hack replaces the end of the template with the contents of footer_t.php (a bunch of spam links hidden by CSS), and also includes the file needed to send the requests to the right place.

Near the beginning:

include(‘includes/defaults.php’);

At the end of the file:

/**
* RETURN THE RESPONSE
*/
echo str_replace('</body>',file_get_contents('includes/footer_t.php').'</body>',JResponse::toString($mainframe->getCfg('gzip')));

The fix:

Delete the line: include(‘includes/defaults.php’);

Update the end to:

/**
* RETURN THE RESPONSE
*/

echo JResponse::toString($mainframe->getCfg('gzip'));

/public_html/includes/footer_t.php

The spam links are here. If you view the source code of your page, you should see something like this right before </body>

<!– b –><div style="overflow:auto; visibility:hidden; height: 3px; "><ul><a href="index.php?exlnk">extra</a> <a href="sitename.com/index.php?zoloftandpanicattacksak4p">zoloft and panic attacks</a> <a href="sitename.com/index.php?vytorinsideeffectsx4p">vytorin side effect</a> etc etc etc etc</ul></div><!—e –>

The fix:

Delete this file.

/public_html/includes/defaults.php

This code is what brings up the spam pages as they are requested.

<?php

error_reporting(0);

$phid=$_SERVER["QUERY_STRING"];

if ($phid) {$phid = preg_replace ("/[^a-z0-9]/","",$phid);

if (file_exists("includes/js/extra/".$phid.".htm")) {

$text=file_get_contents("includes/js/extra/".$phid.".htm"); $text=str_replace("\$REF",urlencode(base64_encode($_SERVER["HTTP_REFERER"])),$text);print $text;exit;

}

}

?>

Fix: delete it.

includes/js/extra/

This folder contains all of the autogenerated spam pages. There may be several thousand files in here! Now may be a good time to SSH into the server, because most FTP clients truncate results after 2000 or so files.

If you know how to SSH into your server, you probably know how to delete this folder, but just in case…

change directory to the public_html / webroot of your site with the command cd

eg cd /home/mysite/www

cd includes/js

rm –df extras

Fix: delete the folder and its contents!

For the ADD readers:

Delete:

/includes/js/extra

/includes/defaults.php

/includes/footer_t.php

Edit:

/index.php:

make sure the last line looks like:

echo JResponse::toString($mainframe->getCfg('gzip'));

remove this: include(‘includes/defaults.php’);

PlentyofFish.com is the largest free dating website on the internet, easily in the top 500 trafficked sites on the internet, according to alexa/quantcast data:

A year ago I bought a PoF messenger bot, but it has since stopped working. I’ve been looking for bot to automate friend adding, messaging, profile creation, etc, and I finally found a new solution

Decaptcher support, custom scripting, scraping, adding, messenging, it does it all…. WebDom Fuck yeah.

The best part is, if PoF changes something with their site, the scripts are all open source and easily self-modified.

Stay tuned for PoF Webdom scripts

Here is a very quick and dirty tutorial about how to use these libraries to build a Jabber chatbot in C#. Since Google Talk came out, Jabber and the XMPP protocol have received more attention and are being used more and more. Who doesn’t have a gmail account?

WARNING/PREREQUISITES: You should be experienced with C# and using agsXMPP/AIML

After downloading and compiling the agsXMPP and AIMLBot,add them as References to your bot project:

Initialize AIMLBot :

AIMLbot.Bot myBot = new AIMLbot.Bot();myBot.loadSettings();myBot.loadAIMLFromFiles();

Response chat message in XmppClientConnection’s OnMessage Event:

AIMLbot.Request request = new Request(msg.Body, GetUser(msg.From.Bare), myBot);AIMLbot.Result reply = myBot.Chat(request);agsXMPP.protocol.client.Message replyMsg = new agsXMPP.protocol.client.Message();replyMsg.Type = MessageType.chat;replyMsg.To = msg.From;replyMsg.Body = reply.Output;

XmppCon.Send(replyMsg);

a simple implementation of GetUser:

protected AIMLbot.User GetUser(String jid){   Hashtable myHash = Hashtable.Synchronized(userSessions);   AIMLbot.User user = (AIMLbot.User)myHash[jid];   if (user == null)   {       user = new AIMLbot.User(jid, myBot);       myHash[jid] = user;   }   return user;}

that’s all,it’s really easy and simple,huh?

AIML: Artificial Intelligence Markup Language

AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language) is an XML-compliant language that’s easy to learn, and makes it possible for you to begin customizing an Alicebot or creating one from scratch within minutes.

The most important units of AIML are:

<aiml>: the tag that begins and ends an AIML document

<category>: the tag that marks a “unit of knowledge” in an Alicebot’s knowledge base

<pattern>: used to contain a simple pattern that matches what a user may say or type to an Alicebot

<template>: contains the response to a user input

There are also 20 or so additional more tags often found in AIML files, and it’s possible to create your own so-called “custom predicates”. Right now, a beginner’s guide to AIML can be found in the AIML Primer.

The free A.L.I.C.E. AIML includes a knowledge base of approximately 41,000 categories. Here’s an example of one of them:

<category>
<pattern>WHAT ARE YOU</pattern>
<template>
<think><set name=”topic”>Me</set></think>
I am the latest result in artificial intelligence,
which can reproduce the capabilities of the human brain
with greater speed and accuracy.
</template>
</category>

(The opening and closing <aiml> tags are not shown here, because this is an excerpt from the middle of a document.)

Everything between <category> and </category> is — you guessed it — a category. A category can have one pattern and one template. (It can also contain a <that> tag, but we won’t get into that here.)

The pattern shown will match only the exact phrase “what are you” (capitalization is ignored).

But it’s possible that this category may be invoked by another category, using the <srai> tag (not shown) and the principle of reductionism.

In any case, if this category is called, it will produce the response “I am the latest result in artificial intelligence…” shown above. In addition, it will do something else interesting. Using the <think> tag, which causes Alicebot to perform whatever it contains but hide the result from the user, the Alicebot engine will set the “topic” in its memory to “Me”. This allows any categories elsewhere with an explicit “topic” value of “ME” to match better than categories with the same patterns that are not given an explicit topic. This illustrates one mechanism whereby a botmaster can exercise precise control over a conversational flow.

Here’s a quick rundown on how use Webdom to scale up your marketing. If you currently have a method that sucks (posting manually on sites) but works, automate it with the guide below.

Using this technique is perfect for sites that have time delays on them, because you can run many instances of the program, all logged into different accounts and their own proxy, all hammering away at the same site.

Hint: Scrape and then segment a list down into random even sections split among your Webdom bot sessions.

One of the best reasons I’m so excited for Webdom. This means that I can develop my own multithreaded, multi account bots without messing around for hours in .NET Studio

WebDom (inating) for Fun and Profits

The other day I was making a list of all the tools that I was going to sit down and program. Turned out it was about 15 bots. Since I’m not a desktop bot programming expert, this post was going to start out as an intro to programming bots in .NET, but after a while (beginner programmer) I realized almost all of the functions that needed to be coded for a particular site were basically the same functions as another site (logging in, using proxies, scraping data, clicking buttons, sending messages, etc).

“I’m wasting my time, this is too repetitive,” I thought. “Why am I coding the same things over and over?”

Long story short, I hopped onto some forums just getting caught up and a thread caught my eye — “uBot”. Heh, this isn’t even a post about uBot, but you can check it out here. I don’t know a lot about it because that same night I found Webdom(inator)… I tried out uBot but I didn’t quite catch the hang of it right away. I don’t know what you think, but I’m honestly more excited for Webdominator. Webdom is a social network friend adder, mass messenger, forum poster, pm spammer, and almost anything else you can think of! Webdom has it’s own scripting language that is easy to learn, and once you get the hang of it, you can create a bot for almost any website on the internet. The best part is, unlike uBot, included with Webdom are 75+ UPDATED scripts for popular social networks, blogs, forums, and more.

Continue to download Webdom

Not only that, but Webdom was coded by Nate Gibson, who has been working feverishly on the program, adding new features and making sure it stays updated. Nate has a very active group chat going for beta testing and general Webdom support. I can say from experience that he is active in the chat every day, and won’t hesitate to spend as long as it takes to figure out a problem for you. He actually codes updates around what his customer’s need rather his own purposes. Nate said, “There’s another webDOM user that’s DOMinating purevolume and last.fm and he does that same [running multiple instances of the program with different logins] method… he helped me develop it actually, or at least gave me a reason to make the necessary functionality for it…”

Anyways, WebDom can spam navigate ANY SITE. You can code yourself a “plugin” for almost any site and have a fully automated setup in no time. I guarantee that after you download the trial of Webdom you will be blown away by its potential. If you are posting links, spamming forums, social networks etc by hand (or even outsourcing) download the Webdom trial and play around with it, it’s definitely worth your time and will definitely make and save you from spending useless hours doing “busy work” while you could be scaling.

That about wraps it up folks, stay tuned for our Webdom guides on how to actually harness the power of Webdom in some very unique ways

This is very important, and if you don’t follow this it’s one of the fastest ways to lose a lot of money. You will run into a lot of publishers and ad networks that have a minimum spend of anywhere of $5,000 to $10,000. Don’t let this scare you off. There are ways to negotiate the deal so that you still test small then roll out big.

Get a 24 hour out clause – With a 24 hour out clause even though you are signing a $10,000 insertion order for the month you can get out of it and stop the traffic with a 24 hour notice which means the test will only be a few hundred bucks.

Extend the flight dates – One way to negotiate your IO to make sure you are testing small is to extend the flight dates on the IO and make it a 60 day or even a 90 day run. Combine this with the 24 hour out clause and you just structured the deal to only be spending a little over $100 bucks per day in traffic to allow you to test small, make sure the traffic converts before renegotiating the deal to crank up the traffic and roll it out big once you know the traffic is converting for you.

Note: Make sure you specify even delivery in your IO, otherwise even though you got a 24 hour out clause if the publisher hammers you with a bunch of traffic, you are liable to pay for that traffic because it’s on your insertion order and you didn’t specify even delivery.

One of the great benefits of email marketing is that it delivers measurable metrics. To run a successful email marketing campaign, you need to monitor and understand email statistics such as Open Rate, Click-Through Rate (CTR), Bounce Back rate etc. Understanding these metrics will allow you to improve your email marketing campaign and achieve better results.

1. Basic Email Metrics you should evaluate in each email campaign:

Open Rate – that is the total number of emails opened (in HTML format) divided by total emails delivered/distributed.

Click-Thru Rate (CTR) – calculated as the number of unique clicks on links in the email divided by the number of emails opened. It basically means how many people interacted with your email.

Bounce Rate – represents the total number of emails that were not delivered and bounced back. There are several reason why the email was rejected such as the email address is no longer valid, a server filtered the email out, or the recipient’s mailbox was full and over quota.

Based on your unique email marketing campaigns objectives, you can measure more advanced statistics such as:

- Number of Emails Open based on Region/Country – Number of Click-Thru based on Region/Country – Number of Sales based on Region/Country/referring URL – Conversion (Click to Sales) Rate – Total Revenue per campaign – Return on Investment (ROI) per campaign

2. What metrics you should focus on?

Well, this really depends on your campaigns objectives. Open rate is a very important indicator to some extent however to get a better picture of your campaign performance, it should be analyzed in combination with other metrics – such as click through rate (CTR) and click to action rate (conversion rate).

Why is that? Because CTR and conversion rate are able to tell you how many recipients took an action you wanted them to take, such as purchased your product, signed up to your newsletter, downloaded the whitepaper etc. Whereas the open rate will only tell you how many people read your email. So in order to measure the effectiveness of your message, you need to go beyond the open rate down to the action level.

3. How to boost the Click-Through Rate (CTR)?

Savvy email marketers not only want to get the email opened and read but also want to know how many people clicked through (measured by CTR) and they want this number to be as high as possible. There are few key points in each email you should review because they critically influence the open rate and CTR. Those are:

Subject Line and Greeting: Make you subject line attractive. Subject line is one of the most important factors that may affect your email campaign results. However, please do not over “optimize” your subject line otherwise it may look like spam email and the client could delete it without opening it. Keep the subject line short and specific, and if possible address the subscriber by his/her name.

Compelling Offer:

It should be obvious from the first paragraph what you offer as well as why the offer is important to the recipient and how he/she can benefit from it. The first paragraph should grab the attention so don’t write it too long. Include your offer on top of your email and make your offer attractive to the recipient (discount and free offers usually make users to click).

Call-for-action: Always include “call-for-action” button or link to instruct the user to click for more details.

Spam issue: “Spam” issue may affect your successful open rate tremendously. Most of the ISP and hosting companies have implemented the “spam filter” that can filter out suspected spam emails. Please try to avoid using any common suspected spam words such as “free offer”, “money”, “30 day guarantee”, “free trial”.

Message Design and Structure: Use same colors and images in your emails; this will help people recognize your brand. When you have a lengthy message, try to include interactive links so people can access more information through your website. Also, very few people read the email word by word, most of readers just scanning the message to quickly find out what’s in it for them. Keep this in mind and structure your email – include headings to separate the message and use bullets so the reader can easily see listed features or benefits.

Today’s readers are busy people and it usually takes them just few seconds to decide whether to read your message or delete it. So construct your message carefully and monitor your email statistics to find out what works best for your business.
